Germany provides international volunteers with many opportunities to engage with German daily life. Volunteering in Germany offers another opportunity to visit and experience life here. Our center in the city of Halle offers you a unique opportunity to live and volunteer in Germany while giving a hand to the locals and refugees coming from around the world.
Prime Location
As a volunteer in Germany, you are perfectly situated between the sea and the world-famous Alps. You can explore the wide plains stretching into the North Sea, the forests in central and southern Germany, or the valleys that the Rhine River cuts through. With this diversity of landscapes, there are numerous opportunities to explore the natural beauty of one of Europe’s largest countries.
If you are looking to explore outside of Germany, the country is centrally located. This allows for easy access to the numerous neighboring countries, including Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, The Czech Republic, and Poland. Spending weekends traveling the continent is a must because of Germany’s perfect placement.
Language Exposure
For those who are looking to hone or improve their language skills, Germany is the perfect place. Outside of the big cities like Berlin and Munich, the German communities will provide you ample opportunities to practice with the locals. You will be exposed to the German language daily while visiting the marketplaces and restaurants. It’s a wonderful environment to develop new language skills.
Historically Rich
Germany is a country with a history that spans many millenniums. From the early Germanic tribes, through both World Wars, and then surviving the divide between East and West Germany for almost 30 years, Germany has endured years of architectural and cultural change.
The impact of history is obvious in the country’s cities and towns as you travel through pre-Reformation churches, the castles of long-dead royals, the fairytale Black Forest, and the skyscrapers erected in East Germany. Full of museums and exhibits, there is something new for volunteers to learn about the German country around every corner.
A Study For Evolving Refugee Policy
With trends beginning in 2012 and noticeably increasing in the years 2015 and 2016, Germany was expressing clear signs of being a destination hotspot for refugees. This was due to many factors, including proximity and the government’s willingness to accept asylum seekers. Germany is in relatively close proximity to the major countries in turmoil during 2015 and 2016, making it a financially feasible option for migrants.
Another contributing factor was the “Open-Door” policy reinforced by Chancellor Angela Merkel until 2018. This influx of refugees has facilitated the development of many organizations to aid in the integration of newly arrived asylum seekers. As a volunteer in Germany, you will find all kinds of work to contribute to the evolving needs of these international migrants.
Culturally Diverse
Germany is a melting pot of different ethnicities and cultures. With such diversity, you will find the country’s lifestyle shaped by its international community. Many markets cater to the international demand in Germany, providing a variety in the cuisine.
People with varying backgrounds live all over the country, not solely in the big cities. In the coming years, you can expect this international presence to have a huge impact on modern German society. As a volunteer in Germany, you will get to see this changing demographic up close and personally. Be a part of the future and the tidal wave of global change in Germany.
